Sustainable Development
At Tortuga Bay, sustainability is more than a practice—it is our legacy. As part of Grupo Puntacana, we are proud to carry forward over five decades of pioneering environmental and social responsibility. Through the vision and work of Fundación Puntacana, the core driver of our group’s sustainability efforts, we integrate conservation, community development, and innovation into every aspect of our hotel experience. Our pursuit of GreenKey certification is the next step in this journey, reaffirming our dedication to luxury that respects both people and planet.
The expertise and impact of Fundación Puntacana, a model of private-sector leadership in sustainable tourism, strengthen every initiative we champion at Tortuga Bay. From marine research and coral reef restoration to waste-to-compost innovation and wildlife conservation, Fundación Puntacana ensures that our commitment goes beyond hotel walls—reaching ecosystems, schools, and communities across the region.
Protecting Our Natural Heritage
Nestled beside the Reserva Ecológica Ojos Indígenas, Tortuga Bay offers guests direct access to a living laboratory of conservation. Here, Fundación Puntacana leads projects to restore coral reefs, protect endangered species like the Ridgway’s Hawk, and safeguard sea turtle nesting sites. By staying with us, guests become active supporters of these critical efforts to protect the Dominican Republic’s natural treasures.
Responsible Operations
Together with Fundación Puntacana, we implement rigorous programs to reduce our environmental footprint: energy efficiency measures, solar power, water conservation, recycling, and the elimination of single-use plastics. Our innovative Earth Flow composting system transforms organic waste into nutrient-rich soil for local gardens and green areas, closing the loop between hospitality and sustainability.

Fundacion Puntacana collaborates with dozens of strategic partners from the private, public, and civil society sectors to address social and environmental challenges. Education, health, coral reef restoration, endangered species conservation, community entrepreneurship, cultural preservation, solid waste management and ecotourism are some of the foundation's main focuses.
Fundacion Puntacana has received numerous international awards for its innovations and commitment to sustainable tourism, including awards from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Conde Nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure and National Geographic Traveler.
